Charlie takes the water. "I don't know how long I'll be down there," his avatar says. "This might mean life or death." The woman nods and races off toward the exit. Charlie heads further down, inching closer to the bottom of the cavern.
After a long hike, he's finally close - until the bright glow of the jewel is fully in sight. All around it are civilians and treasure hunters alike slumped on the floor, moaning cries of "Water" in utter exhaustion. There's no time, though - two delirious treasure hunters are locked in a tight grapple for the jewel!
Charlie rushes up and knocks them aside, easily nabbing the jewel. He walks back toward the cavern entrance, staring into the jewel's brightly colored facets, when a shot rings out... and Charlie looks down. He's been shot through the chest!
Charlie whips around, dropping to his knees with exertion. He can glimpse a treasure hunter lying on his stomach with his hand on the trigger, wearing an oh-so-faint smile.
The screen pulls back, and suddenly Charlie is watching his avatar fall to the ground as he bleeds out from his wound while the treasure hunter crawls over, opens the bottle of water, and loudly slurps. Huge letters swoop in as the camera pulls away. "AND THE MORAL OF THE STORY IS: DON'T BE GREEDY AND TURN YOUR BACK ON THE NEEDY."
Charlie yawns and nods his head in the direction of the blinking "Share with your friends?" prompt before pulling the headset off and dropping it on the dresser. Leaning back in bed, his eyes close, sending him into another world of dreams.
And so he drifts off to sleep, soothed by the gentle tones from the headset - still connected to the internet - as the 'Likes' come rolling in.
